As soon as I took a bunch of photos of this I blog bombed it to everyone I knew from Boing Boing to /Film. Even the celeb-obsessed blog Defamer took notice. , or "Artoo" for short), is a fictional character in the Star Wars universe. R2 is one of the only four characters - the others being Anakin Skywalker (Darth Vader), Obi-Wan Kenobi, and droid companion C-3PO - to appear in all six Star Wars films.
The original R2-D2 chassis was specially created by Australian firm Petric Engineering and was precision made to a high standard with small tolerances.[citation needed] R2-D2 was played by Kenny Baker in five of the six Star Wars films (though credited with appearing in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, he never filmed any scenes).[citation needed] Many scenes also made use of radio controlled and CGI versions of the character.
In the prequel trilogy
In Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, R2-D2 is introduced as a droid belonging to the Naboo defense forces, and helps repair Queen Padmé Amidala's starship as it attempts to get past the Trade Federation blockade. Later, R2 becomes part of Qui-Gon Jinn's party in Tatooine and meets C-3PO and Anakin Skywalker. Later, he serves as the astromech droid for Anakin's starfighter during the film's climactic battle scene.
In Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, set 10 years later, R2 is still in Padmé Amidala's possession, and he accompanies Anakin and Padmé to Naboo when her life is threatened, and then to Tatooine when Anakin tries to rescue his mother. Here, he is reunited with C-3PO, and the two get into various misadventures on Geonosis. He and C-3PO are later witnesses to Anakin and Padmé's secret wedding.
In Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, R2 helps Anakin and Obi-Wan Kenobi in their mission to rescue Chancellor Palpatine from Count Dooku's capital ship. He is attacked by super battle droids, but manages to defeat both of them through ingenious tactics. R2 accompanies Anakin throughout the rest of the movie, but does not play a large part in events. Later, C-3PO's memory is wiped clean to keep the knowledge of the locations of Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia Organa a secret from their father, who has fallen to the dark side and become Darth Vader. However, R2's memory is not wiped. This lack of memory wipe makes R2 the only character by the end of Return of the Jedi who knows the entire story of the Skywalker family. Both R2-D2 and C-3PO end up in the possession of Captain Raymus Antilles onboard the blockade runner Tantive IV at the end of Revenge of the Sith.
R2's Gadgets
R2 has often been a "box of tricks" for the protagonists, including many apparatti and manipulators. Some of his gadgets include a taser, a gripping tool, a computer interface, and a periscope. This "box of tricks" image was parodied by Star Wars Spoofs with an image of R2 featuring such items as a popcorn machine and a bottle opener plus other traditional pocket knife items. In the original trilogy, R2 has a very strict set of tools, using some, such as his computer interface arm, far more than others. This set was expanded afterward in the prequel trilogy, adding jets, oil spray, and more. The films were criticized by a few viewers in that they exploited R2 as a method getting out of any situation.

Lucas has stated that Akira Kurosawa's 1958 feature film The Hidden Fortress (USA release 1962) was a strong influence, particularly Tahei and Matakishi, the two comic relief characters that serve as sidekicks to General Makabe.
R2-D2 was partly inspired by the robots Huey, Dewey, and Louie from Douglas Trumbull's 1972 film Silent Running.
The name is said to derive from when Lucas was making one of his earlier films, American Graffiti. Sound editor Walter Murch states that he is responsible for the utterance which sparked the name for the droid. Murch asked for Reel 2, Dialog Track 2, in the abbreviated form 'R-2-D-2'. Lucas, who was in the room working on the script for Star Wars, heard the request and, after asking for clarification, stated that it was a "great name".[1]
In some Spanish-speaking countries R2-D2 is frequently referred to as Arturito ("little Arthur"), since it sounds similar to the English Artoodeetoo.
Around the same time that A New Hope was being shot, Ray Harryhausen had already created Bubo for the 1981 film Clash of the Titans. It was a metal owl with a big head that flew heavily and made whistles and tweets. Harryhausen denied a relation: "contrary to what some critics said at the time, Bubo was invented before R2-D2"[2].

R2-D2 and C-3PO had their own animated series, Star Wars: Droids, set before they came into Luke Skywalker's possession.
In the various Star Wars novels and comics, the droid duo have played a small but significant role. During the Black Fleet Crisis, for example, they were mostly out of the way, working with Lando Calrissian and Lobot to discover the mystery behind the Teljkon Vagabond. In the Expanded Universe novel The Swarm War, R2 inadvertently helps Luke and Leia come to grips with their heritage when an electronic glitch unearths long-concealed images of Anakin relating his fear of losing Padmé, and of Padmé's death.
In Star Tours, he is seen in the queue with C-3PO repairing a StarSpeeder 3000 and during the ride as the navigator.
In the latest issue of Star Wars: Legacy (#12), R2-D2 is revealed to have survived the resulting 88 years after his last appearance and has been upgraded to the latest technology. He is presented to Cade Skywalker by the old Jedi Order member K'Kruhk and Cade's Master Wolf when Cade went to rescue a captured Jedi being held by Darth Krayt on Coruscant.

R2-D2 was inducted into the Robot Hall of Fame in 2003.
Ewan McGregor, who portrayed Obi-Wan Kenobi in the prequel trilogy, said in an interview, "As soon as R2-D2 comes on the set, everyone goes a bit silly." He recalled how his then four-year-old daughter announced she was in love with R2-D2, and then confessed his own affections for the astromech: "...there is something about him that makes you feel great affection for him. I think it is a combination of his shape, his high-pitched voice. He's just incredibly appealing. In fact, I believe he is George [Lucas]'s favorite actor." Lucas confirms this in the audio commentary of the Episode III DVD.

C-3PO ([si.'??i.pi.o?], nicknamed Threepio) is a fictional character from the Star Wars universe, who appears in both the original Star Wars films and the prequel trilogy. He is also a major character in the television show Star Wars: Droids, and appears frequently in the series' "Expanded Universe" of novels, comic books, and video games. C-3PO is one of the four characters to appear in all six of the Star Wars feature films, and the only character portrayed by the same actor in all six installments of the Saga. In all his various appearances, he is portrayed by Anthony Daniels.
C-3PO is a protocol droid designed to serve humans, and boasts that he is fluent "in over six million forms of communication." C-3PO is generally seen with his long-time counterpart, R2-D2, a small, quirky astromech droid. Threepio's main function as a protocol droid is to assist with etiquette, customs, and translation so that meetings of different cultures run smoothly. In his time, C-3PO loyally served over forty masters. He hated adventure and space travel, as they often resulted in him coming out on the wrong end of a fight, losing parts, and having them reattached, sometimes incorrectly. Together with his fellow droid R2, Threepio played a vital and pivotal role in the Galaxy's history, however lowly he thought of himself.C-3PO was originally activated on the Cybot Galactica foundry world of Affa[1] in 112 BBY.[citation needed] His more well-known incarnation, however, was "born" on Tatooine around 32 BBY, when he was rebuilt by a young boy named Anakin Skywalker, who came upon the protocol droid's standard 3PO-series discarded and gutted head and chassis while in a Mos Espa street with friend Kitster Banai.
Later, Anakin decided to smuggle C-3PO home piece by piece. Kitster asked him what use the droid would have at home and Anakin told him that the droid would be used as a servant as a Cybot Galactica protocol droid. Anakin found that the droid's balance gyro was quite old dating back several decades.[2] Anakin made the droid functional with scrounged and improvised parts; while Threepio boasted a standard protocol droid verbobrain and communicator module, it is unknown whether these parts originated with his chassis, or if they were acquired independently by Anakin. Threepio's wiring and construction were sound, but Anakin could not afford even the simplest of droid coverings.

Having originally designed him to help his mother, Shmi, Anakin carried Threepio along when he bartered with nearby Jawa traders. On one occasion Anakin came across a wounded Tusken Raider. Due to 3PO's fluency in millions of languages Anakin was able to nurse the Tusken Raider back to health,[1] though the Tusken Raider was not fond of Threepio, and roared at him to "shut up" in his own language.[3]
In 32 BBY C-3PO met his future partner, R2-D2, Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, Queen Amidala of Naboo and Jar Jar Binks, whom he characterized as "odd." Threepio never knew he was "naked" before R2 mentioned it. He was extremely embarrassed by this, but Padmé remarked that the droid was perfect. C-3PO and R2-D2 formed a fast friendship, working together to perfect Anakin's podracer for the Boonta Eve Classic. The more experienced droid told Threepio of the danger of space travel, to which Threepio proclaimed that no one would get him to go on a starship.[3]
Shortly afterwards, C-3PO became part of Anakin's pit crew during the Boonta Eve Classic, where he saw Anakin defeat Sebulba. Unfortunately, C-3PO and his master parted ways when Qui-Gon freed the boy after winning a bet with Anakin's master, Watto. Before parting with his master, Anakin assured the droid that he would make sure Shmi didn't sell him and said his final goodbye.[3]

Character overviewYoda is portrayed as a wise and powerful Jedi Master in the Star Wars universe. Series creator George Lucas originally wished Yoda to follow his other characters in having a full name: Yoda Minch, but instead opted to have many details of the character's life history remain unknown. Yoda's race has never been stated in any media, canonical or otherwise, and he is merely stated to be of a "mysterious species" by the Star Wars Databank. His race has been called a "tridactyl species" but this simply means that they have three fingers. It is believed[who?] that the character was inspired by Tom Yoda, chairman of the Tokyo International Film Festival.
Early in the development of Episode IV, Lucas included a species called the Whills, a distant, omnipresent race who were to take the story-teller perspective. It has been postulated by fans that Yoda, Yaddle and Vandar Tokare are Whills; recently, there has been passing reference to a Shaman of the Order of the Whills in the novelization of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, confirming their continued canonical existence in the Star Wars universe. However, Lucas has firmly denied that Yoda's species is in fact that of the Whills. In fact, very little is reported of Yoda's life before the events of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.
The films and Expanded Universe reveal that he had trained several notable Jedi, including Count Dooku, who is identified in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones as Yoda's old Padawan Learner; Mace Windu; Obi-Wan Kenobi (partially, before Qui-Gon Jinn takes over as Obi-Wan's master); Ki-Adi-Mundi, Kit Fisto and eventually Luke Skywalker. (During the animated series Star Wars: Clone Wars, set between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, he mentions that he trained another one of the leaders on the Jedi Council, Master Oppo Rancisis.) The Star Wars prequel films explain that he instructs all younglings in the Jedi Temple before they are assigned to a master. This was displayed in a scene in Attack Of the Clones.
LanguageYoda speaks "Galactic Basic" in a distinctive manner by using anastrophe, that is, placing verbs (and more frequently, auxiliary verbs) at the end of a clause, and inverting the object and subject. In linguistic typology this is the "Object Subject Verb" format. A typical example of this pattern is from Return of the Jedi: "When 900 years old you reach, look as good you will not." Yoda also occasionally speaks in Object Verb Subject format. For example: "Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter," and "Your father? Powerful Jedi was he." or " Not if anything to say about it I have. "
Yoda's speech pattern has been the source of much parody. He uses this style of language much less in the original trilogy, while he rarely speaks without anastrophe in the prequel trilogy.-------------------may the force be with us
Anakin Skywalker
- A child born of prophecy, possibly conceived by the will of the Force
itself, Anakin Skywalker has left an indelible mark on the history of
the galaxy, leading it through periods of lightness and dark.
Discovered as a slave child on Tatooine, he was brought into the Jedi
Order and quickly ascended to become one of its brightest stars. The
trials of the Clone Wars, however, transformed him. Tempted by Supreme
Chancellor Palpatine, Anakin succumbed to the dark side of the Force,
and became the Sith Lord Darth Vader. It was only through the efforts
of his son, Luke, that Anakin was redeemed to fulfill the prophecy, and
vanquish the Sith Lord, Darth Sidious.
Before The Phantom Menace
Much mystery surrounds the birth of Anakin Skywalker. There was no
father -- Shmi Skywalker carried him in her womb and gave birth to him,
yet how he came to be remains a puzzle. Some speculate that it was the
will of the Force. Darker theories point to forbidden Sith experiments
that could coax midi-chlorians to create life. Whatever the
explanation, Anakin was destined to be special, despite his lowly
status as a slave.
Shmi and Anakin came to Tatooine when he was a toddler, and they were
sold by their owner, Gardulla the Hutt, to the unscrupulous Toydarian
junk dealer Watto to settle a gambling debt. While in Watto's employ,
Anakin learned valuable mechanical and technical skills. He earned the
reputation of being able to fix anything. So technically inclined was
he that at the age of nine, he cobbled together a working protocol
droid -- C-3PO -- to help his mother.
Anakin was a kind, selfless child. He had no thoughts of greed or
malice in him. He would often risk his own well-being to bring help to
those who needed it, heedless of the consequences. As a five-year old,
Anakin climbed a dune to chase away banthas so that hunters would not
shoot them. Though he collapsed from exhaustion several times, he
nonetheless persevered in his effort to save the animals. A few years
later, he broke into the fortress of Gardulla the Hutt to save
Ghostling children captured there. Even the risk of enraging the Dug
bully named Sebulba -- who provided the Ghostlings as slaves -- did not
deter the boy.
During a trade with Jawas from Mochot Steep, Anakin came across a
wounded Tusken Raider. Despite common traveler advice to the contrary,
Anakin tended to the Tusken Raider's wounds and nursed him to health.
Though compassionate, Anakin was also quite competitive --
downright aggressive at times. Anakin's participation in the foolhardy
sport of Podracing was testament to this. Anakin was the only known
human capable of handling the extreme speeds of Podracing. His small
frame allowed him to sit in the tiny cockpit, and his superhuman
reflexes gave him the advantage he needed to keep up with alien
competitors better suited to the sport. Anakin's reflexes were actually
the product of Force-intuition -- the boy could see events before they
happened, and respond to them in kind. Anakin's love of Podracing came about almost by accident.
Anakin took Watto's Podracer out for a test spin and performed
exceptionally. Recognizing his talent, Watto let the boy continue his
piloting, sensing potential profit from the venture. Little did Watto
suspect that Anakin would start building his own Podracer, in secret,
that would eventually win him his freedom.
Qui-Gon Jinn

At the behest of Supreme Chancellor Valorum, Qui-Gon and his Padawan
apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi journeyed to Naboo to settle the trade
dispute that threatened the peaceful world. Aboard a Trade Federation
battleship, the Jedi were ambushed, but they managed to escape to
Naboo's surface. In the swamplands of Naboo, Qui-Gon rescued a
clumsy Gungan outcast, Jar Jar Binks, who swore a life-debt to the
Jedi. Qui-Gon's compassionate nature was such that he took the strange
alien under his protection. With his help, they journeyed to the city
of Theed. There, they freed Queen Amidala and her retinue from the
clutches of the Trade Federation, and set off to deliver her safely to
Coruscant. During the trip to the capital, damaged sustained to
the Royal Starship forced an unscheduled stop on the Outer Rim world of
Tatooine. There, Qui-Gon discovered a young slave boy named Anakin
Skywalker, who was strong in the Force. Sensing the boy's potential,
Qui-Gon liberated Anakin from slavery. During their departure from
Tatooine, Qui-Gon was nearly killed by a dark warrior, whom he
suspected to be a Sith Lord. The Jedi Master then traveled to
Coruscant to present Anakin to the Jedi Council. The Council, however,
felt Anakin's future seemed clouded and uncertain, and deemed the boy
too old to begin training and dangerously full of fear and anger. They
refused to allow Qui-Gon to train Anakin, but the Jedi Master
nevertheless kept the boy as his ward as he returned to Naboo.
On Naboo, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan confronted the Sith Lord Darth Maul,
Qui-Gon's attacker from the desert. Maul proved a deadly and fearsome
opponent. Together, Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon fended off the Sith Lord's
attacks, but as the battle progressed, Master and apprentice became
separated. Maul pressed his advantage, wearing down Qui-Gon's defenses
and ultimately killing the Jedi Master. Obi-Wan then defeated Maul, but
nothing could save Qui-Gon. With his last breath, the Jedi Master asked
Obi-Wan to train Anakin, a request Kenobi accepted. A short
time later, the Jedi Master's body was cremated at a funeral attended
by numerous mourners, including Anakin, Obi-Wan, Jar Jar, and several
Jedi Council members.
From the Expanded UniverseQui-Gon Jinn was long hesitant
to take on a Padawan learner, given his failure with his second
student. Xanatos was the son of Crion, the wealthiest man on the planet
Telos. He had a very high midi-chlorian count in his bloodstream,
prompting Jinn to take him as an apprentice. Crion reluctantly agreed
to let his son leave for Jedi training.
Although Xanatos' talents were undeniable, his high birth and attitude
often led to clashes with his fellow students. For Xanatos' final test,
Jedi Master Yoda sent him and Qui-Gon back to Telos, where a civil war
was brewing. Xanatos' father implored his son to join his forces in a
bid to control the planet. Xanatos agreed and Qui-Gon found himself at
war with his own student. Jinn was forced to kill Crion in battle, and
an enraged Xanatos battled his mentor. Though Qui-Gon defeated Xanatos,
he could not bear to kill his own Padawan. The defeated student fled
and Qui-Gon obsessed over his failure for years, dismissing his earlier
successes as a teacher and often referring to Xanatos as his "first"
apprentice. Although he vowed to never again train a Padawan,
Qui-Gon eventually formed a connection with an adolescent Obi-Wan
Kenobi on a mission to Bandomeer. Yoda wished for Obi-Wan to become
Qui-Gon's third apprentice. Eventually, Qui-Gon was able to overcome
his grief, and took Kenobi as his Padawan. The path was by no means
smooth, as their relationship suffered when Obi-Wan briefly abandoned
the Jedi Order to help end a civil war on Melida/Daan. Eventually, and
uneasily, the two reunited. They would grow to become a formidable
team.
Behind the Scenes
In the earlier drafts of the screenplay for The Phantom Menace,
Qui-Gon did not join Obi-Wan until much later in the film, meaning that
much of the early action (such as the aborted negotiations aboard the
Trade Federation flagship) was solely handled by Kenobi. The final
screenplay described Qui-Gon in his 60s, far older than actor Liam
Neeson.

2-1B (Too-Onebee)

A type of medical droid found throughout the galaxy, 2-1B units are roughly humanoid-appearing droids with surgical manipulation appendages, medical diagnostic computers and treatment analysis computers. For detailed patient status information, a 2-1B relies on medical instrumentation or useful analysis droids like FX-7. An old reliable droid model developed by a collaborative venture between the now-defunct Geentech Corporation and Industrial Automaton, the 2-1B is considered a classic droid design, and a welcome, comforting sight to the ailing and infirm. The droid is often equipped with a pleasing, soothing demeanor, particularly models that perform general practitioner functions.
One particular unit, called Too-Onebee, was the medical and surgeon droid that was stationed with the core group of Rebel Alliance soldiers on Hoth's Echo Base. Before his career in the Rebellion, Onebee was once a medical droid in the employ of Lord Cuvir, a draconian Imperial Governor. He was liberated from Cuvir's service by Alliance Intelligence agent Tay "Tiree" Vanis. This humanoid mechanical then aided Luke Skywalker several times, most notably during the events surrounding the Battle of Hoth. He revived Luke from a state of dormo-shock after the young commander suffered exposure to the Hoth elements. After Luke's confrontation with Darth Vader on Bespin, Too-Onebee affixed Luke with a cybernetic hand. Too-Onebee also monitored Luke's health when Skywalker succumbed to the mysterious Crimson Forever illness after the Battle of Hoth. During the evacuation of Hoth's Echo Base, Too-Onebee and his assistant FX-7 fled aboard the last transport to leave Hoth, the Bright Hope. The transport was waylaid by bounty hunters Zuckuss and 4-LOM, but was ultimately able to rejoin the rest of the Rebel Fleet.
Not surprisingly in the supply-strapped Rebel Alliance, Too-Onebee also assisted in unexpected capacities, such as operating holographic projectors during Rebel briefings. -------------------may the force be with us
R5-D4
- The fate of the galaxy would be very different had R5-D4's motivator been more reliable. The red-trimmed cultivator astromech droid was almost purchased from Jawa traders by Owen Lars. When the battered little droid rolled away from the sales line, his motivator shorted out and he blew his stack. Rather than buy the worthless hunk of junk, Owen instead bought R2-D2. Artoo was reunited with his companion C-3PO, and the two would go on to become important heroes of the Rebel Alliance.
From the Expanded Universe
Industrial Automaton cut one corner too many by the time they produced the unwarranted R5 addition to their otherwise successful astromech program. In an effort to cash in on the popularity of their line, they developed the R5 as an "economical" version of the R2, lacking many of the amenities that the more expensive model featured. Such cost cutting negatively affected the R5 personality matrix, and the finished droids often developed sullen and acerbic character traits. The product line was a failure, and Industrial Automaton attempted to recoup losses by reusing the R5 frame as part of their R2-AG4 and R4 agromech lines.
R5-D4 was abandoned by many owners and switched hands over the course of long, miserable decades. The little droid became quite jealous of the newer, more popular models and made no secret of his spite.
After being passed up by Owen Lars, R5-D4 was stolen from the Jawa sandcrawler by a mischievous Squib trader named Macemillian-winduart?. The trader sold the droid to Alliance historian Voren Na'al, who had the little red unit refurbished. He planted R5-D4 within the government offices of Mos Eisley, where the droid became a valuable source of intelligence data.-------------------may the force be with us

Darth Vader is a fictional character in George Lucas' science fiction saga Star Wars and is the primary antagonist in the original movie trilogy. Original trilogy
In the original Star Wars trilogy, which takes place 19 years after the events depicted in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of The Sith, Darth Vader is the primary antagonist: a dark, foreboding, and ruthless figure. One of the pivotal rulers of the Empire, he mercilessly attempts to destroy the Rebel Alliance, which is waging a long and desperate war to free the galaxy from the Empire's evil clutches. Beginning with The Empire Strikes Back, Vader's leitmotif is composer John Williams' The Imperial March, which heralds the character's entrances in the mise en scène.
Creation and Concept
The character's image was created when concept artist Ralph McQuarrie drew the opening scene where Vader and his stormtroopers board a Rebel ship.[2] It was initially imagined that Darth Vader would fly through space to enter the ship, necessitating a suit and breathing mask.[2] This equipment was later made permanent and incorporated in the story.[2]
The iconic sound of the character's respirator breathing was created by sound designer Ben Burtt, who created the sound by recording himself breathing into a scuba regulator.Darth Vader's costume is one of the areas in which Lucas' interest in feudal Japan -- in particular samurai warriors -- is most clearly manifested.[5] According to Star Wars wardrobe master John Mollo, "Darth Vader's helmet started as a World War I German helmet".[6]

- Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace is a 1999 American space opera film written and directed by George Lucas. It was the fourth film to be released in the Star Warsprequel
story to the original film trilogy. It was also Lucas' first film as a
director in 22 years, and only his fourth overall. The film follows Jedi Knights Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi, who flee the planet Naboo with Queen Amidala in the hope of finding a peaceful end to a trade dispute. Along the way, the ship must stop for repairs on the planet Tatooine, where the Jedi encounter Anakin Skywalker, a young slave boy who is unusually strong with the Force. Lucas began production when he felt special effects had advanced to
the level of what he had envisioned for the film. Shooting took place
during 1997 at various locations including Leavesden Film Studios and the Tunisian desert. Special effects made extensive use of computer-generated imagery, with some characters and scenarios being completely digital.
The Phantom Menace was released in May 19, 1999, almost sixteen years after the previous film in the series, Return of the Jedi
(1983), and was accompanied by extensive media coverage and great
anticipation. Despite mixed reviews by critics, who praised the visuals
and action sequences but criticized the writing, characterization and
acting, it grossed $924.3 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing Star Wars film, the 10th highest-grossing film of all time and the highest-grossing film of 1999. It is also the 6th highest-grossing film of all time at the US box office.Plot
The Galactic Republic
is in a period of decline, with its bureaucracy bloated and corrupt and
its economy deteriorating. In response to a taxation on trade routes,
the greedy Trade Federation organizes a blockade of battleships around the small planet of Naboo. Hoping to resolve the matter, the Supreme Chancellor dispatches two Jedi, Qui-Gon JinnPadawan Obi-Wan Kenobi, to negotiate with Trade Federation Viceroy Nute Gunray. Unbeknownst to them, the Trade Federation is in league with the evil Sith Lord Darth Sidious,
who orders them to kill the Jedi and invade Naboo with an army of
battle droids. Narrowly evading death, the two Jedi stow aboard landing
crafts and escape to Naboo. There Qui-Gon saves local Gungan outcast Jar Jar Binks
from being trampled by a Federation tank. Indebted to the Jedi, Jar Jar
leads them to the underwater Gungan city of Otoh Gunga, where the Jedi
unsuccessfully attempt to persuade the Gungans to help the people of
Naboo, though they are able to obtain a transport to reach the city of
Theed on the surface. and his
Queen Padmé Amidala
of Naboo is captured by the Federation army, but is rescued by the
Jedi. The Queen escapes Naboo with the Jedi on her personal starship,
which is damaged on its way through the blockade surrounding the
planet, forcing them to land on the nearby desert planet Tatooine for repairs. Qui-Gon ventures into the settlement of Mos Espa with Jar Jar, R2-D2
to a junk shop to purchase a new hyperdrive generator. In fulfillment
of the Queen's wishes, they allow one of her handmaids to journey along
with them, but in reality, it is the Queen herself disguised as a maid.
There they meet a young slave child named Anakin Skywalker,
who takes an immediate liking to Padmé. After spending time with Anakin
and his mother, Shmi Skywalker, Qui-Gon senses a strong presence of the
Force
within him, and suspects he may be the Chosen One who will bring
balance to the Force. Qui-Gon makes a bet with Anakin's owner to enter
him in a podracing tournament, and that if Anakin wins, he will be
freed. With Qui-Gon's guidance, Anakin manages to win the race and
joins the group to be trained as a Jedi, but he is forced to leave his
mother behind because Qui-Gon was unable to arrange for her release as
well. Before they leave, they are attacked by Darth Sidious'
apprentice, Darth Maul, who was dispatched to capture the Queen. After a brief fight, they manage to escape.
The Jedi escort the Queen to the Republic capital planet of Coruscant so she can plead her people's case to the Galactic Senate. Qui-Gon, meanwhile, attempts to persuade the Jedi Council
to train Anakin as a Jedi, but they refuse as Anakin is too old and has
too many attachments, which would risk him turning to the dark side of the Force. Within the Senate, Senator Palpatine of Naboo convinces the Queen to move for a vote of no confidence
in the Supreme Chancellor so they can vote for a new, stronger
Chancellor who will help end the conflict. She indeed pushes such a
vote, but grows frustrated with the lack of action by the Senate,
ultimately deciding to return to Naboo with the Jedi.
Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan duel against Darth Maul on Naboo.
Back on Naboo, Padmé reveals herself to be Queen Amidala, the other
"Queen" having been a decoy for her own protection. The Queen convinces
the Gungan people to form an alliance against the Trade Federation.
While the inept Jar Jar leads his people in a battle against the droid
army and the Queen moves in to capture Viceroy Gunray in Theed, Anakin
commandeers a vacant starfighter and joins the dogfight against the
Federation droid control ship in space, using his skills with the Force
to destroy it, which deactivates the entire droid army. The Jedi,
meanwhile, encounter Darth Maul once more and engage him in a
two-on-one lightsaber
duel. Qui-Gon is mortally wounded in the battle, but Obi-Wan manages to
kill the Sith apprentice. With his dying breaths, Qui-Gon tells Obi-Wan
to train Anakin. Senator Palpatine is elected as the new Supreme
Chancellor, the Federation viceroy is sent to stand trial for his
crimes, and the Jedi Council reluctantly allows Anakin to become
Obi-Wan's apprentice. At a grand ceremony, Queen Amidala presents a

Bedanya sm cd bajakan yg bikin trooper armor(kolektor/SW lovers yg punya mold asli dr eps2 lama SW) ga ada 'hak' sebenernya,krn bukan mereka yang buat desain2 awalnya(yg matung dari awal sampai modelnya selesai),tapi gara2 mereka ini akhirnya penggila2 SW bisa dapet kesempatan buat punya armor yg akurat dgn film. 'hak' mereka,mereka dapet dari jerih payah dan uang yang mereka keluarin buat research dll sampai akhirnya mereka bisa dapet bagian dari sejarah film ini. bayangin aja kl mereka stop produksi gara2 mereka takut bakal d recast lg,nah ini yg d sukain sama pecinta props sama praktek ini. Mahal memang,tp kl d bandingin pengorbanan mereka,buat gw si worth every dime. FYI uda ada 2 produser yg stop produksi krn alasan sama lho
